But first, also determining the 3rd spot in the top 3, was a match between myself and mighty, mighty Chris Green. I entered the match facing down my air hockey mentor with both intimidation and determination in my eyes. Yet, in a continuation of the night's parody, I powered my way to a victory thus securing my spot as the tourney's lone undefeated, and final's match entry.
And thus it was, yet again, a match between Mike and Chris, both clawing forward toward a showdown for the champion's title. Waiting to see who I would face I reffed the match growing evermore uncertain with each well-placed shot, each unbending block, each throat-cutting motion, until Chris Green forced the final goal.
And on to one more match. Knowing I had the advantage of an undefeated score card, I forced away any undue confidence knowing that Chris has, and would, if given the chance, make quick work of me. So I hunkered down resigning myself to the knowledge that each goal scored-against counted as two, and each game lost to the "Green Thing" would seal my certain doom. "Fight, my child" are the words that resonated inside, deep and echoey, and fight I did, until all the fibers of me spelled out P-U-C-K. And win I would. Finally. Oh, what a breath it was at the sound of that final puck-meets-frame Ka-chink!
Next was the pint-drinking contest.
Tourney results: Mike Keller 3rd, Chris Green 2nd, Nick Keller 1st.
Again, as always, one more time until next, thanks to the Billiard Bar for allowing us our "moment of the howl"... minutes, hours, years, in fact.
